Leicester Buses celebrates Catch the Bus Month

Families across Leicester can enjoy unlimited bus travel for just £6.40 a day at weekends this September, as Leicester Buses launches a special offer to celebrate Catch the Bus Month.
For the whole of September, the Family Flexi Day ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) will be available at a discounted price of £6.40 on Saturdays and Sundays, making it even easier and more affordable to enjoy days out together by bus!
The ticket can be used across participating Leicester Buses operators, so families aren't restricted to travelling with just one bus company and can change between operators as part of their journey.
The special offer is part of Leicester Buses' support for Catch the Bus Month, the annual campaign encouraging people to choose the bus more often and discover the benefits of public transport.

Leicester Buses brings together the city's bus operators and Leicester City Council to create One Network that is electric, frequent, reliable, easy and great value.
Making fares simpler and more affordable is a key part of that work. Leicester has moved towards an all-operator Flexi range, with passengers able to use more than one participating operator without the financial penalty of buying separate operator tickets.
The £6.40 Family Flexi Day Ticket reduced-price weekend offer will be available every Saturday and Sunday throughout September 2026. The ticket allows up to 2 adults and 3 children (up to the age of 16), unlimited day travel anywhere in the Flexi Area for only £6.40 during September Saturdays and Sundays and £10 at all other times.

Free Pride Bus from Leicester Buses
4th September 2026
People heading to Leicester Pride this Saturday, 5 September, will be able to travel between the city centre and Abbey Park for free thanks to a dedicated Pride Bus provided by Arriva as part of the Leicester Buses One Network Partnership.
The free shuttle will connect key locations across Leicester with the Pride festival at Abbey Park, helping make it easier and more accessible for people to join one of the city’s biggest annual celebrations.
The Pride Bus will provide a free connection between The Rainbow & Dove, Charles Street for Haymarket Bus Station and George Street for Abbey Park. Early journeys will also serve Charles Street for Curve Theatre, helping passengers travelling into the city ahead of the Pride parade.
Services will begin from 11am, with regular journeys operating between the city centre and Abbey Park through the afternoon and into the evening.
Arriva is operating the service through the Leicester Buses One Network Partnership, showing how local bus operators and Leicester City Council can work together to support major community events and make public transport easier and more accessible.

The dedicated Pride Bus supports that ambition by giving visitors another free option for reaching the festival without needing to travel by car.

Leicester to fund more electric buses

Operators in the Leicester Buses One Network Partnership are being encouraged to bid for up to £5m of grant funding to help purchase more electric buses.
The grant has been allocated to Leicester City Council to promote its recently approved One Network bus plan. This continues the transformation to a high quality bus network that is fully electric, frequent, reliable, easy and great value.
The grant will pay up to 75% of the cost difference between a new electric and diesel bus, together with up to 75% of associated charging infrastructure costs.
The zero emission buses will have advanced accessibility features, including additional wheelchair/buggy space, hearing loops and audio-visual next bus stop announcements. They will be painted in the distinctive green ‘One Network’ brand.
There are already 190 electric buses in operation, around 75% of the Leicester Buses network, with a further 60 on order to come into service by March 2027.
This latest grant funding round will fund up to 30 more electric buses and enable the Leicester network to become fully electric in 2027. The One Network Partnership has formally agreed to only operate electric bus services from April 2028, two years ahead of the government’s target.

“This is great news for public transport users, the new Leicester Buses One Network Partnership plans to deliver a further £75m investment into local bus services.
"This will accelerate our delivery of a fully electric network, which we expect to achieve in 2027.
“We are now working with operators in the partnership, seeking bids for up to £5m of new grant funding to help expand their electric bus fleets.”

Free all day concessions on the Park & Ride from 24th August
From 24th August, we will be making travel for concessionary bus pass holders even simpler on the Park & Ride services. All concessionary bus pass holders will be able to travel for free all day on the Park & Ride services, removing any time restrictions. Whether you’re travelling into the city for shopping, appointments or a day out, Park & Ride offers an easy and convenient way to get around. This 12 month trial is being funding by Leicester City and Leicestershire County Council using funding by UK Government.
Leicester Buses helps young people travel for less this term

Child and Student Flexi tickets offer simple, great-value travel for the journey back to school, college and university. As families across Leicester prepare for the start of the new academic year, Leicester Buses is reminding young people that they can travel for less with its range of Child and Student Flexi tickets.
Designed to make regular bus travel simpler and better value, Flexi tickets give young people access to services across participating Leicester Buses operators, providing greater choice over the bus they catch without having to stick to one bus company.
For school-age passengers aged 11 to 16, Child Flexi tickets cost £49 for four weeks or £540 annually, helping families manage the cost of regular journeys to school and beyond.
For young people aged 16 to 18 travelling to college, sixth form or university, the recently introduced Student Flexi costs £68 for four weeks or £575 annually.
The annual Student Flexi is £37 cheaper than last year's equivalent ticket and, as Leicester moves towards One Network, One Ticket, students can use participating operators rather than needing to buy separate single-operator tickets.
The tickets are part of the Leicester Buses Partnership's wider One Network programme, bringing Leicester City Council and the city's bus operators together to create a simpler and more integrated network.
Through common ticketing, coordinated services, improved passenger information and continued investment in electric buses and infrastructure, the Partnership is working to make travelling by bus across Leicester electric, frequent, reliable, easy and great value.

The Flexi ticket range forms part of wider work by Leicester City Council and local bus operators to make public transport more affordable and accessible. Hospital Hopper expands to Ashton Green thanks to partnership investment

Leicester's popular Hospital Hopper service is reaching even more people, with a new extension to the growing Ashton Green community.
From 13 July, the popular service was extended to Ashton Green, operating every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday. This provides residents with direct, convenient access to key destinations across the city including Beaumont Leys, the City Centre and all three hospitals.
There is also good interchange along the route to other destinations. All day and period tickets can now be used on any local bus operator, making it easier than ever to travel around Leicester by bus.
The main weekday Hospital Hopper service is funded by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Its weekend service and recent extension to Ashton Green is funded by government grant awarded to Leicester City Council.
The Hospital Hopper is operated using five fully electric buses owned by Leicester City Council, reflecting the city's commitment to delivering cleaner, greener public transport.
Supporting these types of journeys is a key objective of the Leicester Buses Partnership's One Network, creating an integrated high quality network that is electric, frequent, reliable, easy and great value.

Leicester Buses extends Flexi ticket savings for students

Students across Leicester will benefit from a simpler, better-value way to travel from 1st August, as Leicester Buses introduces a new range of all-operator Flexi student tickets.
Following the successful introduction of discounted Flexi fares for adults, children and families earlier this year, students will now be able to choose from new 4-week (£68) and annual (£575) Flexi tickets which make the annual student Flexi £37 lower than last year, offering unlimited travel across all participating Leicester Buses operators; there will no longer be single operator student tickets available as we move to One Network, One Ticket.
The new products mean students no longer need to worry about travelling on a particular bus company, giving them the freedom to use whichever service is most convenient at no extra cost.
The new student Flexi range forms part of Leicester Buses' wider One Network programme, which is creating a simpler, more integrated bus network through common tickets, coordinated timetables, improved information and branding, alongside continued investment in electric buses and bus infrastructure.
Leicester Buses is also continuing its popular £6.40 Flexi Family school holiday ticket, providing unlimited travel for two adults and up to three children for a full day's travel across the network. The discounted family ticket offers around a 20% saving, making it an affordable option for families visiting attractions, shopping or enjoying days out during the school holidays.
The savings don't stop with students and families. Thanks to the UK Government's Great British Summer Savings initiative, children can also travel free on participating Leicester Buses services from 1-31 August, making family days out more affordable before the new school and university terms begin.

Leicester's Bus Operators Pledge Continued Investment As
Leicester Buses Partnership Enters Next Phase
Leicester City Council and the city's seven bus operators have reaffirmed their shared commitment to delivering better bus services, coming together today (Tuesday 28 July) to support the next phase of transformation.
Representatives from Leicester City Council and Arriva, Centrebus, Central Connect, First Bus, Kinchbus and Roberts Travel gathered at Jewry Wall Museum, where they signed a joint declaration supporting a proposed new agreement up to 2030 called the One Network Partnership.
The event follows the publication of Leicester City Council's decision notice which sets out its intention to enter into a new formal partnership, having reached full agreement with all operators and stakeholders. Subject to final ratification, the proposed new One Network Partnership will guide around £75 million of investment between September 2026 and March 2030.
This builds on the success of Leicester's previous partnership agreement, which has already transformed bus travel across the city with over £150m of investment.
The new One Network Partnership agreement will continue to deliver a simpler, more integrated bus network based around five standards:
Electric
Frequent
Reliable
Easy
Great Value
Future improvements include more investment in electric buses, upgraded bus stops with real-time passenger information, improved bus priority measures, simpler ticketing, enhanced customer information and continued improvements to the city's integrated network.
By the end of 2027, the whole Leicester’s bus network will be electric and all main stops will have real time information displays.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of people visited Jubilee Square to celebrate the launch of the One Network Partnership, exploring Leicester's latest buses, meeting operators and taking part in family-friendly activities designed to showcase the future of bus travel in the city.
Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said:
"It's been just over four years since we formally launched the Leicester Bus Partnership.
It was something I had been wanting to do for many years – constrained as we were by the Government’s deregulation of bus services in the 1980s, which left councils with little input into local commercial bus services.
Four years on, we can see the huge transformation that this partnership and £150m of investment have achieved.
In Leicester, we have a partnership that's probably the most successful in the country - and it's been done at a fraction of the cost of franchising.
Now we're committing to a new partnership that will guide a further £75m of investment into the bus network, up to 2030.
My thanks go to everyone who has made this possible, particularly the bus operators, who deserve credit for the way they have worked so collaboratively to bring about enormous benefits to Leicester bus users."
Since 2022, Leicester's bus partnership has delivered a range of improvements for passengers, including all-operator Flexi tickets with contactless fare capping, the free Hop! city centre bus service, integrated timetables on shared corridors, significant investment in electric buses, and major improvements to bus stops and passenger information.
The proposed new One Network Partnership will continue that collaborative approach, bringing together Leicester City Council and all seven operators to deliver an integrated network built around common standards for vehicles, ticketing, infrastructure, information and customer experience.

Leicester City Council - Notice to make an Enhanced Bus Partnership Plan and Scheme
This notice satisfies the requirements set out in section 138F(1)(d) of the Transport Act 2000.
Following consultation and detailed discussions with Leicester’s bus operators, the attached revised Enhanced Partnership Plan and Scheme 2026 – 2030 have been drawn up.
No objections have been received from any local bus operator and the Scheme has been subject to an internal legal competition test.
It is the intention of the Partnership to jointly sign this Enhanced Partnership Scheme on 28 July 2026 and for it to come into effect from 1 August 2026 to 31 March 2030.
As required under legislation, the Council is required to consult stakeholders on the proposal to make the Plan and Scheme so that their final views can be considered before it is finalised.
Through the Leicester Buses website, the wider public have opportunity to comment, although they were directly engaged in the preparation of the Enhanced Partnership Plan from which this Scheme was prepared.

The people of Leicester are being invited to a free family-friendly celebration as Leicester Buses officially launches its new One Network Partnership– marking the next stage in one of the UK's most ambitious bus partnerships.

Leicester powers ahead with another 10 electric buses as
One Network transformation continues

Leicester City Council is set to purchase a further 10 fully electric buses through leading zero-emission bus supplier Pelican, using around £4 million of Government funding, as the city continues its transformation towards one of the UK's largest fully electric urban bus networks.
The new buses will operate on council-supported services delivered by Centrebus, serving routes 20, 24, 81, 83 and 162, bringing cleaner, quieter and more sustainable journeys to thousands of passengers.
The investment builds on Leicester City Council's existing fleet of 24 electric buses, which already operate the city's Park & Ride services, Hop! city centre buses, Hospital Hopper and Orbital routes.
By the end of 2026, the Leicester Buses Partnership will have around 200 electric buses operating across its network. The programme will continue with 50 additional electric buses from Arriva entering service by March 2027, followed by a further 15 buses in late 2027, completing Leicester's transition to an almost entirely electric bus network.
The investment is another major milestone in the Leicester Buses One Network Partnership, which is bringing together Leicester City Council and the city's bus operators to deliver a simpler, more integrated network based around five customer promises: Electric, Frequent, Reliable, Easy and Great Value. The partnership is creating a coordinated network of around 30 main bus lines with common standards for vehicles, ticketing, information, branding and customer experience.

Leicester Buses Passes 1,700 Branded Bus Stops as £1 Million Investment Approved

Leicester Buses has approved a further £1 million investment in bus stop infrastructure, building on significant investment already made to create a more accessible and better-connected passenger information network.
The investment will deliver more than 185 additional Leicester Buses branded bus stop totems across the city and surrounding Flexi fare area, building on the extensive network already in place.
The order includes:
• More than 100 battery-powered Real Time Information (RTI) units, each
featuring a double-sided real time display and a text-to-speech button to
support passengers with visual impairments.
• A further 85 Leicester Buses branded totems, featuring four-sided poster drums for timetables, maps and passenger information.
The new infrastructure will be installed across the Leicester Buses Flexi area, with RTI units prioritised at bus stops serving the city centre and locations with the highest passenger demand.
The investment takes Leicester Buses beyond 1,700 branded bus stops across the network and represents another major step towards delivering the partnership's vision of One Network – electric, frequent, reliable, easy and great value.

The partnership has also overseen the roll-out of electric buses and a programme of infrastructure improvements designed to make bus travel easier and more attractive for passengers.
The new bus stop infrastructure forms part of Leicester Buses' wider programme to complete its One Network standards by 2027, creating a fully integrated network with consistent branding, passenger information, ticketing and accessibility features across the city and county.
Installation of the new totems will begin later this year.

The research examined bus on-time performance across cities and towns throughout the UK, highlighting locations where passengers can have greater confidence that services will operate reliably and arrive when expected.

The partnership has focused on creating a more integrated network, including investment in electric buses, coordinated timetables, improved passenger information and measures to help buses move more reliably through the city. The shared ambition is to create One Network that is electric, frequent, reliable, easy to use and great value for passengers.
Reliable services are one of the most important factors for passengers when choosing to travel by bus. Whether travelling to work, education, healthcare appointments, shopping or leisure activities, passengers need confidence that their journey will run on time.

Free travel to Armed Forces personnel and veterans for Armed Forces Day
Serving members of the Armed Forces and military veterans will be able to travel free across the Leicester Buses network on Saturday 27 June, as operators come together to support Armed Forces Day.
The free travel offer is available on all Leicester Buses network services for serving military personnel wearing their uniform or anyone able to present valid military or service identification.
The initiative is being delivered through Leicester Buses' One Network partnership and recognises the contributions of current and former members of the Armed Forces.
Andy Gibbons, Head of Buses at Leicester City Council, said "Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to recognise the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of the men and women who serve, and those who have previously served, in our Armed Forces.

The offer applies throughout Saturday 27 June across participating Leicester Buses services.
Passengers simply need to travel in military uniform or present a valid military or service ID when boarding.
Armed Forces Day is held annually to celebrate the service of the UK's Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and military families.

From 29th March 2026 the price of Flexi tickets are reducing by up to 20%, making it the cheapest ticket to travel on in the Leicester Flexi area. Bus companies are also removing their single operator only tickets, so that there is one ticketing range - Flexi - in place. This is helping to simplify fares, better integrate the network and give passengers an increased frequency by opening up travel on the whole bus network with one ticket.
This scheme is being funded by the BSIP grant and is estimated to cost around £600,000 per annum in subsidy.

Enderby PR2 Park & Ride Extended to 9pm - March 2026
From the 29th March, as part of the Leicester Buses Partnership EP Plan, the PR2 Enderby Park & Ride service has been extended to 9pm using government bus funding costing £249,000 per annum. This allows commuters and those travelling for leisure purposes to travel directly in to the city centre without the need to worry about the hassles of parking or traffic for their journey. The service also directly serves Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital benefitting both staff and patients.
