Electric buses

We now have over 180 electric buses in our network, operating from 5 new charging depots.

That’s 75% of the current Mainline network!

This will reduce around 8,500 tonnes of CO2 pollution every year.

An overall investment of over £82m in Leicester’s bus network.

Each new electric bus has these new features:

• on-board visual displays giving continuous service updates

• next stop audio announcements

• induction hearing loop at every wheelchair space and priority seat

• USB charging

• distinctive ‘electric’ green branding

Each new electric bus route also has battery-powered bus stop displays showing predicted arrival times.

Over the next 2 years we have funding to introduce a further 60 electric buses to the Mainlines network.

We also plan to seek funds for a further 60 buses to complete an expanded network by 2030.
