Electric buses
We now have over 180 electric buses in our network, operating from 5 new charging depots.
That’s 75% of the current Mainline network!
This will reduce around 8,500 tonnes of CO2 pollution every year.
An overall investment of over £82m in Leicester’s bus network.
Each new electric bus has these new features:
on-board visual displays giving continuous service updates
next stop audio announcements
induction hearing loop at every wheelchair space and priority seat
USB charging
distinctive ‘electric’ green branding
Each new electric bus route also has battery-powered bus stop displays showing predicted arrival times.
Over the next 2 years we have funding to introduce a further 60 electric buses to the Mainlines network.
We also plan to seek funds for a further 60 buses to complete an expanded network by 2030.
