Discounted ticketing
To increase access to bus services, we will continue to fund the following targeted discounts over the next 4 years.
Free off peak and half fare peak discount for eligible elderly residents
Free travel at all time for eligible disabled residents
Half fare discount for those who are unemployed.
We are committed to continuing these local discounted ticketing schemes over the next 4 years, subject to funding availability
We are also committed to exploring ways to fund discounted fare offering for young person’s travel over the next 4 years.
Easy joined-up ticketing
Many travellers find the array of different fares and tickets, expensive and difficult to understand, particularly when using more than one operator.
The partnership has already made these changes:
Introduced contactless ‘best fare’ capping. The first city outside London to do this. See Tap on Tap off for more details.
Widened the range of all-operator ‘flexi’ tickets including a new group ticket. Full details of our Flexi range can be found on our Multi-Operator Ticketing Page.
Limit the fare add-on for using more than one operator to 10% or less.
We commit to removing the fare add-on totally in 2026 to make it cheaper to interchange.
Parking costs
In order to make bus travel better value, we will also looking at measures that increase the cost of car travel over the bus – particularly to the City Centre and congested employment areas.
We commit to ensuring that central area all-day parking on-street or in Council multi-storey will always be above the cost of a bus or park and ride fare.
